Things Happening

Our Friday night was pretty chilled out. We ventured down to a new spot Durado showed us and watched the Sunset over the skyline while ships rolled up and down the Mississippi River. It was a pretty amazing view. Afterwards we checked out the gallery @ 1239 Congress for a sneak peak. Then took a bike ride to the Quarter to see some friends before calling an early night.

'Hittin the Spot'
Saturday was a frenzy. Lauren had a teacher conference most of the day. So I was running about cleaning and fixing things at the gallery, and running around town picking up refreshments and what not. All was not in vain. The show was a success. We had steady foot traffic from the moment we opened at 6 til closing at 10. All the artist sold something. The music was great and everyone had a good time. The show looked like an explosion of color and transitioned well from minimal to busy. This month the featured artists were: Sasha Kopfler, Kayla Scholl, & Nycholis Maziejka. Live music provided by Natalie Mae Natalie Mae Music.

Anyways after the show we decided to go with friends to a new Bywater eatery, Suis Generis. We dined with them the first week or so that they opened and it wasn't what I had hoped it would be. Wasn't totally their fault. It was St. Patrick's day neither of us were feeling quite festive and tried for a late dinner after the droves of revelers had made their way to the bars. The menu was decent pseudo Irish fare for the holiday and they were out of several dishes since they had been slammed all evening. Saturday was a much more redeeming experience. It was late so they were out of several dishes already but we made the most of it and picked several dishes that didn't disapoint. I really want this place to be good because of its location, concept, and decor. We will see as their seasonal menus evolve.

Sunday we met up with friends and biked to French Quarter Fest. We saw quite a bit of friends, food, art, musicians, tourists, locals, buskers, second-liners, and a Mardi Gras Indian! We tried not to spend any money, so left when we got hungry. Next year we may be able to check out some of the tastes of the festival but we had made groceries already and needed to eat at home. We ended the weekend with a pan-seared ribeye, quinoa, and a pineapple green bean salad with sriracha lime dressing.

Today Durado and I had a pretty intense work day. We are near completion on our screenplay. We registered it with the Writer's Guild and are now seeking representation or independent buyers. Not any easy task, but we aren't giving up easily. We've been putting the story together for two years and have a product we are really happy with. If picked up and well produced I believe the film could do really well. I'd go see it. Kyle came by and made us a Texican breakfast while we racked our brains.

most important meal of the day
I start a new movie in the morning called Beautiful Creatures that will keep me working until June. My final shoot with Meryl's Paper Cranes and Pendulum is coming up in May. I have an editor lined up to finish the Mohican Scouts 'Do the Lindy' music video I directed. I have been tying up a lot side projects and I'm stoked to see where they lead me and what projects are on the horizon. Curating the next 1239 Congress Gallery show with Lauren is first up...
Things are definitely happening.

  1. Man I'm proud of you two. Livin' the avant garde lifestyle and sharing it with the world. Envious of brutal youth. You guys look like you're in love too. Nothing better. --- Pops
