What's the Difference Between St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo?

No one pretends to be Mexican on Cinco de Mayo!

But we sure do like the food! Tonight we're having some friends over to celebrate Mexican Independence. I will leave you with a preview and our favorite guacamole recipe:

Ingredients:
4 avocados
2 cloves of garlic (shaved)
1 tomato
about a cup of salsa
loads of lime juice
salt and cumin to taste
dollop of plain Greek yogurt

Mash it all up, stir together, drop the pits back in, and chill.

The Tintypes, Chaz Fest, and a closing show @ 1239

During Jazzfest the city is engulfed in music. All the regular venues around new Orleans do some of thier best booking and some venues just pop up. ChazFest was formed as it became harder for local talent to get on the Jazz Fest roster. It's no new event, but it was my first time checking it out. The pop up venue was really cool and even had a little 'Shakedown St.' with vendors selling booze, food, and wares. Tickets were $25 this year which is kind of steep but it's two stages and whole day of music. I was able to catch a miracle ticket from my friend Kat. She also snapped a few of the photos below of the TBC Brass Band.

Our friends The Tintypes were up next next on the Hard Liquor stage. They put on a great performance: sounded amazing.

I had to jet out of ChazFest to get 1239 Congress ready for the reception which closed out April. We had another great evening of art, music, poetry, and community. Here are some of the highlights. As always if you see any work you would like to purchase send us a message and we can put you in touch with the artists.
