Jazz Fest 2013

This past Saturday we got miracle Jazz Fest tickets, thanks to our good friend Berthold's good friend Ruth. This luck has struck for Jazz Fest 2 years in a row (see last year here)! We had dinner plans for Saturday night, so we missed the headliners, but the small acts make it what it is so we weren't sorry.

First Saturday on Julia Street: Jammin' on Julia

http://www.jamminonjulia.net

On Saturday we biked up to Julia Street for their monthly art walk. This month they were hosting the annual "Jammin' on Julia" walk. The difference being live musicians in most of the galleries. This was our first time to first Saturday and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the art. This arts district tends to attract a not so edgy crowd and the art I've seen in the past has been ho-hum. But, as I said I was pleasantly surprised.

We started on Magazine and made our way up and down Julia. Our last stop was a graffiti show in the lower garden district, which was so good I regretfully forgot to take pictures.

This gallery was closed by the time we got here, but the work inside is worth mentioning. These patterns are all made from liquor labels.

Mardi Gras Comes to an End...

The holiday of Mardi Gras is really perfectly planned; by the time Ash Wednesday roles around the last thing anyone wants is to party. What a great way to force such a decadent city into atonement. This year couldn't have ended sooner for me, I went home immediately after Zulu and slept, ate, and watched Gossip Girl (a different kind of indulgence). Christian partied on for us though, and was able to make it past the 12 am threshold. Aside from the parades and parties, we also had one of our college best friends and C's best man in town from NYC. Here's how the party went:

Thursday: Muses Parade, Uptown

Friday: We did nothing!

Saturday: Endymion Parade, Midcity

Sunday: greeted Rabb and walked around the Quarter

Lundi Gras: Shrimp Boil and Orpheus Parade in the CBD

Mardi Gras: St. Anne's in the Marigny and Zulu in the Treme
