About us

By Lauren

I grew up in Northern Kentucky and went to the Savannah College of Art and Design in May of 2004. On the first day, I met Christian standing outside of the Trustees Theater. He started talking to me because he liked my Phish t-shirt. We went back inside. He asked me permission to sit next to me (that was a first for me). I said yes. We spent that entire first day together. And because I was 18, and believed everyone was as passionate about the world as I was, I played him a 7.5 min Bob Dylan diatribe in my car called Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie. And he didn't think I was weird, he actually thought I was cool.

We graduated in May 2008, backpacked through Europe, and then moved to Cincinnati because I got a book deal with QEW publishing for a 40 page graphic novella (recently published). Christian worked as a PA for Taking the Stage and I illustrated the book and waited tables.

We got engaged in Sept/09 and married in June/10. After the wedding we moved to New Orleans, and found our current apartment in the Bywater. I teach at a High School, yoga and special education. Christian works on big budget movies as a grip and smaller budget films as a DP.

We love to entertain, we try not to waste anything, we like to ride bikes around the city, and go to music festivals, and we love our home and our animals.

I grew up in the city by the bay; Mobile Bay. I was several years younger than my three brothers, so it was years before I was cool enough to hang out with them. Instead I existed on a regimen of imagination and Lucky Charms. My parents were extremely supportive of my slew of extra-curriculars which included the ordinary ie: soccer, basketball, football, roller hockey, boy scouts; and the not-so-ordinary ie: after school art classes, community youth theatre, competition speech, dog shows, horse shows, computer camp, and tumbling to name a few.

I was introduced to still photography in high school and shortly after to video production. Before long I was making my own short movies, editing high-light reels for the football team, and co-producing the schools video announcement news program. In 2003 I attended the Young Filmmakers Workshops in Rockport, ME on the advice of a teacher and mentor.  After that the one hobby that stuck began to consume me. I began searching for film programs. I found the Savannah College of Art and Design.

So there I am, my first day of college. My first day on my own, (except maybe for that excursion in Portland that I created by giving myself a few days layover, but nobody knows about that). Anyways I'm walking up to the Lucas Theatre for freshman orientation, late of course, (this was before I had learned the value of punctuality). I see this pretty little long haired doe eyed thing in a phish t-shirt standing  outside smoking. I knew she was edgy because I was late and she just lit up. I asked her for a light even though I had one in my pocket and probably two in my bag. She obliged and we talked between plumes of intertwining smoke. She went in before me as I stood there contemplating my next move. I saw the door closing as she entered the auditorium and began to disappear into darkness. I found myself darting in after her and asking for the seat next to her. We have been together since.

Seven years have passed. Smoking is no longer cool, but we are trying to be. My brothers even like to hang out with me.
