On Change

An Apology
First off I would like to apologize for letting so much time pass in between posts. It has been a busy and interesting past few weeks and it never feels like there are enough hours in the day. As always things are in a constant state of change; some exciting, some mundane, some bittersweet...

American poet, Kimberly Johnson, once said "Never ruin an apology with an excuse." So I won't try to excuse the tardiness of this post but rather share with you some of the highlights that have kept us so busy...

An American Cookout with An Australian Guest List.
Erin was busking selling poetry on Frenchmen, and met a group of traveling Australians. They were several members of Dr. Piffle and the Burlap Band : a 10 piece gypsy/jug/folk/punk/blues band. Lauren and I stopped in to drink some wine with Erin while she typed and met them as well. We ended up staying out late with these guys and somewhere in the mix invited them for a cookout the next evening. So we called some more friends over and made a party of it.

The menu: Beef Burgers, Turkey Burgers, & Black Bean Burgers. Mac-n-Cheese. Spinach Salad.

Writing Sessions @ Chez Villere
Durado leaves for Barcelona very soon to pursue a Masters in Artistic Production and Research. We have been banging out as many script pages as possible and are neck deep in the final act of our screenplay. The goal was to have a completed working draft before his departure but we may be having a few sessions via FaceTime or Skype. This is the first full-length feature screenplay I have had a hand in writing and seeing these characters we created come to life on the page is truly magical.

On Change
Fall is my favorite time of year in New Orleans. The cool breeze returns and there is so much music and fun things coming back into the city. Things and people that seem to leave during the stagnant sticky months.

This fall is going to be a very busy one for me but I am ready to get back to making movies after a nearly six week hiatus. I am grateful I had the break to heal and find some focus to finish out the year strong. We started camera test last Thursday and begin shooting this coming Monday. So it's official: back to the grind. I'm armed with a healed knee and new smile this go round.

Then summer fades and passes and October comes. We'll smell smoke then, and feel an unexpected sharpness, a thrill of nervousness, swift elation, a sense of sadness and departure.
