Mardi Gras Has Begun!

Yay! I thought when I moved here three years ago, that Mardi Gras was an overrated party for drunk tourists. Little did I know, that this would soon become my second favorite time of year. Christian grew up with Mardi Gras celebrated in both New Orleans and Mobile (the birth place of Mardi Gras in the states). Don't get me wrong there are plenty of drunk, sloppy tourists, but if you know where to go, Mardi Gras is a truly unique display of culture. Plus it's a really good party!

Although the season technically begins with Kings Day on January 6th, we start celebrating with Krewe du Vieux. It's one of the few parades that runs through our part of town. It's different from all the other parades in that it is a celebration of artists and street performers, and all the floats feature political puns and sarcasm. This year Christian was working :( but my mom was in town :) and it was her first experience with Mardi Gras. What an introduction! Here's how it went down (viewer discretion is advised):

Goodell was a reoccurring theme

The next night my mom and I saw B.B. King at Tipitina's

Check out last year's Krewe du Vieux here. More Mardi Gras to come...
